Hi, I'm Karen Elaine, your club leader, and creative crafting instructor. My friends call me Karen. I live and create in a small community near Sedona, Arizona, and have been enjoying art and crafts since I was tiny. My grandfather was a successful commercial artist, and I inherited his passion for creativity and his art supplies!
My career in the art and craft materials industry started after leaving my job as an art teacher at a day program for developmentally disabled adults in California. For me, an art supply store was a perfect place to learn new art and craft techniques and materials. I loved showing customers how to use supplies, and I enjoyed creating projects that they could easily do. The love for sharing ideas returned to a passion for teaching.
I left the art supply store to work as a sales representative for an art supply importer, and manufacturer. Over the years, the sales job turned into a creative position. I developed, and demonstrated art and craft products, and formed many great relationships with other manufacturers in the art and craft materials industry. Over the years, I became a brand ambassador for my favorite art and craft supply manufacturers, which gave me access to a world of supplies!
At one of the annual trade shows, the producers of HGTV's The Carol Duvall show and Ms. Duvall herself were perusing the booths to recruit new guests. Ms. Duvall stopped by the display and picked up an origami-inspired handmade book I had made. She introduced herself and her producers asked if I would like to show how to make it on TV. I became a regular guest on the show for several years, and Carol Duvall became a dear friend.
Television exposure opened up a new world of opportunities for me. It was strange and beautiful simultaneously, as I found it challenging to be in the spotlight at times.
I still work in the art and craft materials industry as a consultant, and I teach at the Sedona Arts Center.
My favorite creative crafts are origami, paper crafts, rubber stamping, mixed media, home decor, meditative art, and watercolor. I also know my way around a crochet hook, glue gun, and sewing machine!
As your leader, I will do my best to bring you fun and creative ideas and guest instructors to offer you a wide variety of creative projects that will inspire you to create for your well-being and happiness. I look forward to creating with you!
