Tomoko Fuse, a gifted origami designer from Japan, created this box out of eight paper sheets all the same size. I learned how to make this box from an origami book. Before Youtube tutorials, I had to learn from a diagram, and many of them were in Japanese. I have to admit it was frustrating to try to understand a three-dimensional fold from a two-dimensional picture. I failed and persisted until I successfully folded the box and have been hooked on modular origami ever since. These smart modular boxes can hold gifts, candy, cookies, or they can be a gift just by themselves! We will fold the box out of eight sheets of origami paper six inches square for Friday's live class. We will tie it in a ribbon and will create a gift card with a sweet little poem inside! Be sure to register for the live event, and check back here often for updates, and creative inspiration! Wooden popsicle sticks, craft sticks, and paint stirrers are inexpensive and great to have around the house because there are so many uses. Craft sticks can be painted and decorated in so many ways! I found lots of projects on the internet using craft sticks, and one that caught my eye were dolls made with washi paper, markers, and paint. These craft stick friends are fun to make because you can put a little personality in each one. Place a craft stick doll in a flower pot, a birthday cake, or in the garden to brighten your day! In Thursday's live class, you will learn how to craft these cute little garden dolls, and you will find out different things you can make with craft sticks. So, don't miss out on the fun and register for the class! If you aren't able to attend any live event, we record them to watch at any time. The last month or so has been inspiring because of the great people who have been coming regularly to the Crafting Club. I had no idea crafting was going to be so artistic! Club Member CreationsSee what we have done in just over a month! Most of these past class projects are from our regular member Alexis from Payson, AZ. Her work is beautiful and inspiring to us all. We would love to see what projects inspire you, so please feel free to share and let us know what kind of crafts you would like to do. Paper bags are plentiful and inexpensive, and they are great for crafting too! We will be creating a slot and tab book and a beautiful star using standard size lunch bags in Thursday's live event. You won't believe how easy these are to make! Supplies
Prepare the PagesIf you would like to make the slot and tab book along with me this Friday, you may want to paint eight to ten lunch bags on both sides with craft paint. They need to be completely dry before we make them into a book. This step isn't necessary to learn the book, but it's more fun to make when the pages have color. Choose any color or combination of colors. I used cheap craft paint in shades of light blue because I plan to make it a journal about the beach! See you soon! Check out our upcoming live events and register for creative fun and friendship! The Lotus Flower begins to grow in the deep mud, far away from the sun. During the growing process, it reaches the light becoming one of the most beautiful flowers. Known in many different cultures as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration, and rebirth, the Lotus is a positive symbol of perseverance and strength. Its characteristics are a perfect analogy for the human condition: even when its roots are in the dirtiest waters, the Lotus produces the most beautiful flower. I enjoy folding lotus flowers out of Yuzen paper or fabric. If you start with a sheet of six-inch paper or material, you will have a flower that holds a battery-operated tealight perfectly! The flowers also make great gift toppers and look great worn as a brooch. When folded out of waterproof paper, they make beautiful floating arrangements. After yesterday's live class, I discovered a way to fold the origami lotus flower using one less step. It's much easier to fold and it fits perfectly into a battery operated tea light! You can place these little folded beauties around your tub, or pool to create a relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy! |
