We are starting the new year with a live class on making the classic crochet granny square! Granny squares are versatile and the base of various practical projects, from pincushions to purses to blankets! This Monday, we will crochet two granny squares and a cute flower using standard weight yarn, then next week, we will construct an adorable pin cushion out of the pieces! Supplies
See you Tuesday! Our live class starts at 3 pm MST, so head on over to the Upcoming Events tab at the top of this page, and click on Crochet Crafternoon to register! Let's make adorable air dry clay mini bowls to use as a brush rest or ring holder. The bowls can be beautiful gifts for friends or family too! This live class will be in two parts. The first class will be creating, shaping, and smoothing the bowl shapes using cookie cutters or a craft knife. Since air-dry clay takes about a day or so to dry, we will be painting and glazing the bowls the week after. Supplies
Make Your Own Air Dry Clay! You can make your own air-dry clay using common ingredients right from your kitchen! Watch the video for three different recipes. Make up a batch to have ready for Monday's class! Let's crochet a super easy mask band to make wearing masks more comfortable and colorful. To crochet along in class, you will need some scraps of crochet cotton or yarn, a crochet needle, a couple of buttons, and a needle and thread. They are a quick, last-minute gift that you can make for yourself as well as family and friends! Be sure to register for Thursday's live class by clicking here. Creating carved stamps to make intricate repeated patterns is very rewarding, relaxing, and fun. You can use your eraser carvings to decorate paper, wood, and fabric for unique surface patterns. We will be carving erasers for next Monday's Mixed Media class! SuppliesYou will need very few basic supplies to get started carving your own designs.
Join in the fun!Be sure to register for the class by clicking here or head on over to the Upcoming Events tab on this page. See you Monday, December 7th at 11 am MST! There is nothing more frustrating than getting an idea to create something only to spend most of the time trying to find all the supplies! I now create my art and craft in a minimal space compared to several years ago when I had an ample studio space the size of a two-car garage in my former home. I now have all my art and craft supplies in one spare bedroom of my much smaller house, and I have had to come up with ways to organize everything into the little space. I have learned some smart ways to organize from my friend Carol Duvall who's inspiring craft room overlooking Lake Michigan was the envy of many! I purchased many Iris Carts and storage bins to keep my growing supply collection under control, but I still found myself searching for items. Where did I put that? The question of the day! Getting OrganizedWorking in a smaller space meant I had to become very organized. After much trial and error, I have come up with a system that has worked for me. When I first moved into my current home in early spring a couple of years ago, I chose a sunny north light location with large windows three-quarters of the way around the room. It would be my art studio. I thought this room would be the perfect place to paint because of the ample lighting. I chose a dark spare bedroom with a small window to contain my office and craft supplies and began the organizational effort. Once the intense Arizona summer was in session, North Light studio became uncomfortably hot. Now, I know why they call it a sunroom! In the winter, it was too chilly. I had to abandon the sunny studio and bring all the art supplies into the small, dark craft room office space. I affectionately call it the "Creative Cave." Oh, I forgot to mention, I make all my how-to videos and host our Crafting Club events in this room! Equipped with a bathroom and a shower, I can sequester myself for days in my creative cave. I may come out for the occasional meal or visit with my husband and cat. My little studio space is still a work in progress, but I find myself searching less and creating more. Craft Room TourFor Tuesday's live event, I will take you on a guided tour into my little craft room. We will peek into the drawers and closets, and I will share organizational tips that may help you be more creative with your storage needs. See you then! Most of all, the Crafting Club is fun! Be sure to register for the live events, and if you miss one, you can always find the past events to view at a later time. See you soon! Wooden popsicle sticks, craft sticks, and paint stirrers are inexpensive and great to have around the house because there are so many uses. Craft sticks can be painted and decorated in so many ways! I found lots of projects on the internet using craft sticks, and one that caught my eye were dolls made with washi paper, markers, and paint. These craft stick friends are fun to make because you can put a little personality in each one. Place a craft stick doll in a flower pot, a birthday cake, or in the garden to brighten your day! In Thursday's live class, you will learn how to craft these cute little garden dolls, and you will find out different things you can make with craft sticks. So, don't miss out on the fun and register for the class! If you aren't able to attend any live event, we record them to watch at any time.
